Leadership Essentials (09/28/2025)

Class Day #1 has been completed and was a great success! This class day was hosted by River Region United Way and was held in their new building off South Perry Street. The students brought their parents to the first hour of class so we could spend some time congratulating everyone and doing a quick orientation into how LINC MGM started and what the students will experience this year.

After the parents were dismissed, our speaker, Joel Hughes (Troy Continuing Education and Outreach), taught on Leadership Essentials. Joel walked our students through an activity called "Color Dynamics" where each student learned more about their own personality and how to best communicate with others effectively.

After Joel had finished his presentation, the students had dinner provided by Jason's Deli and continued to get to know each other. After everyone ate, we had the students do a couple games that were designed to help everyone remember names and what school everyone was from. With 13 schools represented, it is always so much fun to see leaders from all different parts of Montgomery connect and learn from each other.

This was a great start to the year! We clearly have a wonderful group of nominated students that are going to grow as leaders and continue pushing this great city in the right direction. Looking forward to the next class in October that will be hosted by Huntingdon College.

Joel Hughes, Troy CE&O Training Program Manager and Instructor, walked the students through building on their Leadership Essentials, he specifically challenged them to think about the best way to communicate with different types of personalities.

The students had their parents attend the first hour of class day alongside them. It was great to get to celebrate the students' LINC MGM nomination with their parents right next to them.

Huge thank you to River Region United Way for hosting our orientation / class day, and also a huge thank you to Jason's Deli for supplying dinner for our students.
