Due to the crazy weather and threat of icy roads, we had our very first virtual LINC class. Thankfully most of the students were able to zoom in and stay safe and warm inside their homes. We hate not being able to meet in person, give the students time to network with our great speakers, and have dinner together, but luckily this class was focused on taking the next steps for the service project and that was easily accomplished online.
The students have chosen their service project to be a one-day leadership conference for high school juniors and seniors in Montgomery! This is going to be a lot to take on, but it will benefit so many people and continue to push our city in the right direction. The students are selecting a leader with a political background, a business leader in the city, and a mental health professional to be the main speakers for class day. They are also finding ways to raise money and have prize giveaways and thank you gifts for all those attending. Several students also came up with an idea for an interactive group activity to get students from all different schools working together. All attendees will get to sit down and have dinner together as well, as the main point of the conference (much like the LINC MGM program itself) is to bring students together from all over Montgomery to meet and network with each other.
All of our students will have specific jobs in getting this project to completion. The LINC Directors will be here to assist with anything the students may need, but this will be completely designed and run by the LINC MGM class. The conference has been set for March 29th from 3:00 to 6:00. Location has yet to be determined, but the students are on it. Very excited to see them take this from an idea to something that will serve the youth all over Montgomery!
